New N=1 Superconformal Field Theories and their Supergravity Description

Andreas Karch, Dieter Lust, Andre Miemiec

TL;DR

The paper identifies a new class of N=1 superconformal field theories arising from mass deformations of N=4 SYM and argues they realize the fixed point found by Warner in AdS_5×S^5 deformations. By applying Leigh-Strassler marginal deformation techniques, it shows that massing one adjoint in N=4 yields a one-parameter family of N=1 theories with two adjoints A,B and a marginal quartic W ~ (AB)^2, with inherited S-duality. It connects these theories to D3-branes probing conifold geometries in related N=2 flows and provides a detailed AdS/CFT check by matching global symmetries and the central-charge ratio c_IR/c_UV = 27/32 to the dual supergravity solution. The work strengthens the holographic interpretation of mass-deformed N=4 SCFTs and clarifies how the Warner fixed point is realized in field theory terms through explicit central-charge and symmetry analyses.

Abstract

In this note we construct a new class of superconformal field theories as mass deformed N=4 super Yang-Mills theories. We will argue that these theories correspond to the fixed points which were recently found by Khavaev, Pilch and Warner studying the deformations of the dual IIB string theory on AdS_5\times S^5.
