Supersymmetries and BPS Configurations on Anti-de Sitter Space

Yosuke Imamura

TL;DR

This work analyzes supersymmetry breaking by branes in $AdS_5\times S^5$ to study a holographic baryon constructed from a D5-brane wrapped on $S^5$ with $N$ fundamental strings. Using the Born-Infeld action and a local BPS condition, the authors derive the D5 embedding and the gauge-invariant flux, showing the baryon energy equals the total energy of the $N$ quarks. They demonstrate that the binding energy vanishes, i.e., the baryon is a marginal bound state as dictated by supersymmetry, thereby resolving previous discrepancies. The results reinforce the consistency of AdS/CFT descriptions of baryons and provide a concrete energy accounting framework for SUSY-preserving brane configurations in $AdS_5\times S^5$.

Abstract

We study supersymmetry breaking due to the presence of branes on anti-de Sitter space and obtain conditions for brane orientations not to break too many supersymmetries. Using the conditions, we construct a brane configuration corresponding to a baryon in large N gauge theory, and it is shown that the baryon is a marginal bound state of quarks as is expected from supersymmetry.
