Joint resummation for heavy quark production

Andrea Banfi, Eric Laenen

TL;DR

The paper tackles accurate predictions for heavy-quark transverse momentum distributions in hadronic collisions by combining threshold and recoil resummation at NLL accuracy. It extends the joint resummation formalism to 2→2 QCD processes with heavy-quark masses and multiple color states, deriving both joint-resummed and threshold-resummed p_T distributions and detailing their transform-space implementation. Through numerical studies of top and bottom production, it analyzes dependence on production channel, color configuration, recoil effects, and compares to fixed-order results to quantify soft-gluon contributions. The results demonstrate the significance of recoil and color-structure in shaping heavy-quark p_T spectra and provide a framework for improved phenomenology in collider environments.

Abstract

We present joint threshold and recoil resummed transverse momentum distributions for heavy quark hadroproduction, at next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy. We study the dependence of these distributions on the production channel, the color configurations and the differences with the pure threshold-resummed distribution.
