Single-spin asymmetries: the Trento conventions
Alessandro Bacchetta, Umberto D'Alesio, Markus Diehl, C. Andy Miller
TL;DR
This work from the Trento workshop provides a consolidated framework for transverse-momentum dependent (TMD) functions in SIDIS, detailing standard definitions for TMD distributions (e.g., Sivers, Boer-Mulders) and fragmentation (Collins), including Wilson-line (process) dependence and SIDIS vs Drell-Yan sign relations. It also establishes Lorentz-invariant azimuthal-angle conventions for SIDIS cross sections and prescribes clear methods to construct azimuthal asymmetries and moments. By clarifying notation and conventions and highlighting differences across literature, it enables consistent comparison and interpretation of experimental and theoretical results in nucleon spin structure.
Abstract
During the workshop "Transversity: New Developments in Nucleon Spin Structure" (ECT*, Trento, Italy, 14-18 June 2004), a series of recommendations was put forward by the participants concerning definitions and notations for describing effects of intrinsic transverse momentum of partons in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering.
