de Sitter Holography and Carrollian Brane Theories

Andrés Argandoña, Alberto Guijosa, Sergio Patiño-López

TL;DR

The paper shows that de Sitter holography can be realized via a longitudinal Carrollian brane limit of string/M theory on asymptotically flat spacetimes, analogous to the NR limit connecting AdS/CFT to NR brane dynamics. By performing temporal T-duality on relativistic D$p$-branes, extremal SD$p$-brane solutions in Type II$^*$ are constructed and shown to satisfy a no-force condition, signaling a BPS-like extremality. The Carrollian SD$p$-brane theories (CSD$p$) emerge as the Carrollian descendants of this construction, living on asymptotically flat $p$-Carrollian geometries, and connect to Euclidean MSYM on $(p+1)$ dimensions. In the near-horizon limit, the SD$p$-brane backgrounds yield geometries conformal to $ ext{dS}_{p+2} imes ext{H}_{8-p}$, providing a generalized dS/CFT correspondence that parallels Hull's original proposal but extends to arbitrary $p$ via open-closed string duality in Carrollian theory. Together, these results establish a Carrollian/de Sitter counterpart to the nonrelativistic/AdS findings and broaden the web of holographic dualities among Type II$^*$ theories, SD$p$-branes, and MSYM on Euclidean spaces.

Abstract

It was discovered in recent months that the anti-de Sitter (AdS) backgrounds involved in all familiar top-down examples of AdS/CFT duality follow from applying a transverse nonrelativistic brane limit to string/M theory on (asymptotically) flat spacetime. In this note we show that an exactly analogous statement holds for de Sitter (dS) backgrounds relevant to particular instances of dS/CFT duality, which are obtained via a longitudinal Carrollian brane limit. This statement makes direct contact with the holographic duality inferred by Hull via temporal T-duality.
